Cognate to Hebrew קָדַד (qāḏaḏ), Aramaic קָדַד (qāḏaḏ, “to cut out”), Classical Syriac ܩܰܕ (qadd, “to tear or cut away”), Ge'ez ቀደ (ḳäddä, “to cut open, to tear apart”), Mehri ḳdd (“to shave off, to cut off, to scalp”).
